Tour Itinerary
Agora of Smyrna
We begin the tour at the Agora of Smyrna, an ancient Roman marketplace located in the heart of modern-day Izmir. Originally built by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, the agora was reconstructed by order of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius after an earthquake in 178 AD. Today, it stands as a testament to Izmir’s ancient past and is now part of The Historical Port City of Izmir on the UNESCO Tentative List.
Izmir Culture And Art Factory
Next, we visit the Izmir Archaeology Museum, home to a fascinating collection of artifacts from the Bronze Age, as well as the Greek and Roman periods. The exhibits include busts, statues, tools, and everyday utensils, offering rich insight into the ancient civilizations of the Izmir region.
Historical Elevator (Asansör)
We continue to the Historical Elevator (Asansör), an iconic landmark in Izmir’s Karataş district. Built in 1907 by Jewish philanthropist Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu, the elevator was created to provide easy access between the lower and upper parts of the neighborhood. Today, it has been beautifully restored, and its upper terrace offers one of the best panoramic views of Izmir. The street leading to Asansör is named Darío Moreno Street, in honor of the famous local singer.
Kemeraltı Bazaar
We conclude the tour with a visit to Kemeraltı Bazaar, one of the liveliest and most historic parts of the city. This sprawling marketplace has existed since medieval times and today is a vibrant maze of shops, cafes, and historic sites. You will have time to stroll through the Anafartalar Street area and experience the unique atmosphere of this authentic Turkish bazaar.
At the end of the tour, transfer back to your hotel or Izmir Airport.
